장소 전치사 at 을 사용하는 경우

at: 어떤 지점에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex: 

at the mall     at the door       at the window 
at the desk    at the corner    at the traffic light  

예문:
Who's at the door?
Go stright and turn right at the corner.

 

 

at: 직장, 학교 등 일상 장소에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex: 

at work       at home         at school   
at church     at somebody's house 

예문:
I don't have to wear a suit at work.

 

 

at: 역 공항에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex:

at the station     at the airport

예문: 
Can you wait for me at the station? 

 

 

at: 행사, 공연, 경기에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex:

at a party         at a concert         at a baseball game 

예문: 
I was at a party last night.

in: 어떤 공간 안에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex:

ex:

in: 책, 사진 등 인쇄물

 

ex:

I read about Isaac Newton in a book. 

 

 

in: (... 에서) ~하는 중인 

 

ex: 

in bed           in prison/jail           in the hospital 

예문:
I called you five times. Sorry, I was in bed(자고 있었다)
Jim is in the hospital. He's having surgery tomorrow.

 

 

장소 전치사 on 을 사용하는 경우

on: 어떤 표면에 또는 표면 위에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex: 

on the wall               on the table              on the ceiling              on the sofa                 on the bench 

예문: 
The clock on the wall is not working.
Look! There is a bee on the ceiling.
Don't sit on the bench. I just painted it. 

 

 

on: 거리에 있다고 말할 때

 

ex:

on 2nd Avenue          on Main Street

예문: 
Is your office on 2nd Avenue?

 

 

on: 층을 말할 때

 

ex:

on the first floor    on the 3rd floor 

예문: 
It is on the first floor. 

 

 

on: 교통수단을 말할 때

 

ex:

on the train          on the bus           on the plane  
예외: in the car in the taxi 

예문:
I bought a newspaper to read on the train.
